Welcome to my new blog! Postings earlier that this one have previously been published on dkia.at. The reason for this change is that we're doing some restructuring. The DKIA website is showing its age and we haven't really updated anything recently. Also it's based on Drupal 7 which will be end of life soon. So we're trying to fix all these issues at once.
I'm working with different people on different projects so we're trying to set up new websites for different constellations I'm working in. The goal is to have separate websites about our products, services (and blogpostings). The new dkia.at will then become an aggregator of sorts so that you'll be able to browse our whole combined portfolio.
Another thing that is that editing postings was too complicated. The WYSIWYG editor didn't work so well. I often had to preview the page, then find out that all my preformatted code was black on black, edit it again, figure out that the image got squished on the side, edit once more, rinse, repeat, until it came out right. For my new blog (and maybe other sites) I wanted something that is easy to use for me. This is a quite subjective matter, I know, what's easy for me might not be easy for other people and vice-versa. Some people prefer (well working) WYSIWYG editors, I prefer Markdown. It combines my fondness of plaintext with the ability to do a bit of formatting as well.
So this new system is all based on Markdown. I create or edit Markdown files, push them to my git server and it gets published.
- What about version history? - That's where git excels at!
- Drafts? - Well, I can just create branches, only the "master" branch gets uploaded.
- Security updates? - Not needed, no bulky CMS in the background, no database that commands can be injected into, just some PHP to format Markdown files.
- What about caching, analytics?? - Nope, this site runs lean and efficient. Notice how fast it loads, no convoluted frameworks, no privacy invading trackers, just content.
- What about plugins? - This blog has a cat on every page. What else could anyone want?
